Empowered Aging is proud to launch a brand-new feature: The Empowered Universe, a series celebrating the extraordinary strength, wisdom, and advocacy of our senior community. Each month, we’ll introduce a new member of the Wizdom Warriors — a league of Senior Super-Heroes, each one built around a real resource, a protected right, or a personal strength that helps older adults live with dignity, safety, and joy.
These heroes aren’t just fun characters. They’re a way of making sure the issues that matter most to seniors — elder justice, fraud prevention, social isolation, healthcare access, and so much more — are seen, understood, and celebrated. Behind every cape is a real cause. Behind every superpower is a real resource you or someone you love can actually use.
And every great universe needs an origin story. So this month, we’re honored to introduce the very first Wizdom Warrior to step into the spotlight.
Super Power: Sonic Advocacy – Beatrice’s voice carries a unique frequency that forces facility operators, corporations and bad actors to pause, listen, and immediately address facility grievances or rights violations.

Long before she became an Empowered, Beatrice Jenkins was already a force to be reckoned with.
A lifelong Bay Area native, Beatrice has called nearly every corner of the region home at one point or another. She built a career in social welfare, earning degree after degree along the way — not for the title, but because she never stopped believing that systems could be made to work better for the people who depend on them. She spent decades leading, organizing, and showing up for communities who needed someone willing to fight for them. Advocacy isn’t something Beatrice picked up later in life. It’s something she’s done, in one form or another, almost her entire life.
Then, at 77, something shifted. Beatrice became Empowered.
Her voice — already known for its clarity, conviction, and refusal to be ignored — transformed. It now carries a frequency only the Wizdom Warriors fully understand: one that makes facility operators, corporations, and bad actors stop, listen, and act. When Beatrice speaks up about a grievance or a rights violation in a long-term care facility, she cannot be talked over, brushed off, or quietly filed away. People listen. Things change.
But here’s the twist: since becoming Empowered, no one has actually seen Beatrice.
They’ve only heard her.
Her voice moves through the community like a current — amplified by the people around her, carried by the advocates, families, and Ombudsmen who do this work in the real world every single day. Because if there’s one thing Beatrice has always known, it’s that no leader does it alone. “The Voice” is only as powerful as the team behind her, and her team is mighty: case managers, social workers, family members, and especially Long-Term Care Ombudsmen — the real-life advocates who investigate complaints and protect residents’ rights in nursing homes and assisted living facilities across the country.
That’s why Beatrice’s mission isn’t just about fighting individual injustices. It’s about making sure people know these protections and these advocates exist — and know how to call on them.
